Driving in Tunisia

Trunk roads are generally in good condition but driving requires to be very vigilant.

Be careful after a strong rain: potholes could be formed especially on minor roads and tracks. Local cars are often decayed and in bad condition. Drivers do not respect the highway code and drive often very fast.

Pay attention to buses. They often have a very aggressive behaviour and consider they have the right of way in any cases. On opened roads they drive to foolish paces and without much consideration to others.

Be very careful by night: many cars and two-wheeled vehicles do not have any lights and you can cross animals and pedestrians on the roadway. In the event of accident it is necessary to establish a friendly report.

In the event of a serious accident in some rural regions it is recommended to place oneself as soon as possible under the protection of the police.

In downtown, pay attention to the pedestrians: they cross anywhere and without being concerned with vehicles.
