Driving in Lebanon

The Lebanese road network has been damaged because of the recent military operations. The country has not any real road network that leads to very dangerous behaviours when driving.

The main part of Lebanon has mountain roads which plunge directly toward the sea. The scenery is marvellous but these roads along ravines and abrupt walls require concentration.

In winter be more vigilant in mountains: ice, snow and heavy fog are frequent. Drive rather between 9am and 4pm.

Local drivers do not respect the highway code. In Lebanon it is easy to get a driving licence. And this is added to an aggressive driving, be thus vigilant.

On large roads the signalisation is generally written in Arabic and in French.

Be aware of the first rains in Autumn: dust and fuel oil have covered the roadway during the summer and will form a slipping film when raining.
