Driving in the Seychelles

The Seychelles count only 400km of roads generally in good condition. Roads are narrow and sinuous and it exists only one motorway, the “Province Highway”.

Driving on the left-hand side of the road requires to be particularly careful especially at crossroads. Many roads have not any roadsides which is risky for cyclists and pedestrians. Be careful.

Population density is quite significant and locals do not respect much the highway code.

Pay attention to buses (the ‘Tatas’) which drive often very fast and think they have always the right of way.

Check your car hire agreement to be sure it is comprehensive (fully comprehensive insurance) and not only third part. Ask for it in French version and read thoroughly guarantees and excesses. Some hirers propose only a third part guarantee which is to avoid. In the case of an accident it is recommended to wait for the police.
