Driving in Cyprus

The road network is excellent with 4-lanes motorways connecting principal cities to the capital, Nicosy. Connections between Nicosy, Limassol, Larnaka et Paphos are in good condition as well.

It is not always the case for secondary roads which can be in bad condition in the most isolated areas.

Driving is on the left-hand side of the road: take time to get used to the gear lever and be vigilant at the crossroads.

Traffic is quite heavy on the island because there are no public transport.

Cypriots do not respect much the highway code. They drive fast and are used to “stick” the vehicle forward. Accidents are frequent. Be careful.

Downtown streets generally do not have pavements and parking is always anarchical.

Maintenance work is often badly indicated. Reach these areas with caution. Driving by night on narrow ways requires a lot of alertness in the absence of a clear roadsign.
