The general condition of Maltese roads is so-so and they are famous for their potholes. There is no motorway in Malta.
Driving is on the left-hand side of the road: take time to get used to the gear lever, be vigilant on crossroads.
There are very few traffic lights in Malta and local drivers get thus not used to respect them. They do not use either their indicators and often drive in the middle of the road. Be very careful, the number of accidents is high.
Pay attention to busses. They consider they have the right of way whatever it happens.
