Driving in United Kingdom

The road network is dense and in good condition even if it is saturated at peak hours. Motorways are free except M6 and some bridges.

The United Kingdom has the lowest rate of accidents in Europe. These good figures are surely due to the responsible and courteous behaviour of drivers.

Driving on the left is troubling because it requires to reprogram all its usual reflexes. Be careful during the first kilometres. The purpose of the gear lever by the left hand requires a time of adaptation.

Generally the priority is to the right. Roundabouts are caught on left-hand side and it is advised to place itself on the external file. The priority is with the vehicles already engaged.

There are very few Stop signs in the United Kingdom but rather Give Way signs indicating to yield the passage without marking a stop.

Speeds and distances are indicated in miles: 1mile = 1,6km. 1km = 0,6 miles.
